Something strange is happening in Washington’s rapidly escalating war over artificial intelligence.
Sen. Bernie Sanders has emerged as one of the loudest voices calling for dramatic federal intervention, backing legislation that would permanently prohibit artificial superintelligence and temporarily pause certain advanced AI development until a new federal regulator establishes safety rules. The proposal would also make it U.S. policy to pursue international agreements aimed at preventing superintelligence from being developed anywhere in the world.
But as I reported at RedState, there’s another part of this story that deserves much closer scrutiny.
Across the Atlantic, Britain is considering its own Artificial Superintelligence Bill. Introduced in Parliament on September 8, the measure would prohibit the development, deployment and operation of artificial superintelligence systems.
So, was Bernie Sanders’ bill written in London?
The similarities have fueled questions about where this policy movement originated and who is helping shape it.
