The Big Lie That Jimmy Kimmel is a 'Free Speech' Hero
"Kimmel’s return monologue was about himself, casting himself as the victim in a controversy that began when a husband and father was gunned down for daring to speak his mind..."
Jimmy Kimmel returned to ABC on Tuesday night a purported “free speech” hero, even as major carriers Sinclair and Nexstar blacked him out for refusing to apologize for smearing millions of Americans as a “MAGA gang” supposedly responsible for the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Kimmel offered no apology. Instead, he repeated the same behavior that got him suspended in the first place: spreading disinformation.
Jimmy Kimmel effectively blamed Trump for being taken off the air:
“The FCC has a tradition of meddling where they shouldn’t under many administrations, but it wasn’t always like this. There was an FCC commissioner back in 2022 who worked under Joe Biden who was spot on. He wrote, ‘President Biden is right. Political satire is one of the oldest and most important forms of free speech. It challenges those in power while using humor to draw more people into the discussion. That’s why people in influential positions have always targeted it for censorship.’ You know who wrote that? FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr, who later was appointed chairman of the FCC by this former crusader for free speech.”
The moment then cut to a clip of Trump stating, “If we don’t have free speech, then we just don’t have a free country. It’s as simple as that. If this most fundamental right is allowed to perish, then the rest of our rights and liberties will topple just like dominoes. One by one, they’ll go down.”
“That was also in 2022,” Kimmel said or Trump’s previous comments. “And I wonder how did that guy turn into this guy?”
No, Donald Trump was not to blame for his suspension, as Kimmel claimed.
Disney itself admitted he was yanked because his comments were “ill-timed and thus insensitive.” Sinclair and Nexstar made equally clear that his reckless rhetoric was the reason his show was pulled.
Once a fraud, always a fraud. Kimmel’s entire return monologue was about himself, casting himself as the victim in a controversy that began when a husband and father was gunned down for daring to speak his mind to college students. Rather than showing humility or respect, he made the moment about Jimmy Kimmel.
But that is exactly what you would expect. It isn’t even clear whether Kimmel is truly as “woke” as the character he plays on TV.
What is clear is that spouting hard-left dogma and toxic vitriol against the president of the United States remains the safest job security in Hollywood. Disney knows it, which is why the network keeps him despite the ratings freefall and financial losses.
For ideologues like Kimmel, there never seems to be a bridge too far.
Amid the disingenuous deflection that Kimmel’s smear that, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
Of course, Tyler Robinson is not a MAGA supporter or conservative or anyone else who disagrees with the hard left views that he quite clearly supports.
Thus, Kimmel was effectively greenlighting more political assassinations on MAGA supporters like Charlie Kirk by furthering the demonization and dehumanization, not to mention the outright lies, that got him killed.
This is an FCC violation. Case closed.
Look, no one should expect sincerity or contrition from Jimmy Kimmel. His employers don’t expect it either.
But even as Charlie Kirk was being targeted for permanent censorship for sharing his conservative Christian views, California Democrats were pushing through one of the most sweeping censorship bills in state history. Senate Bill 771 would fine social media companies up to $1 million if regulators decide their algorithms “amplify” content the state deems hateful.
It passed the Assembly on September 10, the very day Kirk was assassinated, and cleared the state Senate again on September 16. With national attention riveted on the Kirk tragedy, the measure advanced with barely a whisper of scrutiny.
The law would hand California bureaucrats the power to decide what speech counts as hateful, incentivizing platforms to silence dissent to avoid crushing penalties. Even civil rights groups have called it “censorship disguised as civil rights.”
Critics warn it violates the First Amendment and conflicts with Section 230. Yet Governor Gavin Newsom could soon sign it into law, setting a precedent that threatens online speech nationwide.
At the same time, Google admitted to Congress that the Biden administration pressured it to censor Americans on COVID-19 and elections—content that didn’t even violate its own rules. Google called this “unacceptable and wrong” and promised to reinstate accounts banned under those political pressure campaigns.
It’s proof the censorship wasn’t about safety or truth; it was about silencing dissent.
The Democratic Party hid behind “free speech” as one of its “presidents” carried out extensive, sweeping, and devastating censorship campaigns against millions of American citizens.
That same party is also trying to hide behind free speech as it puts millions of Americans at risk for their peaceful and civil disagreement with the left.
You know it’s bad when even The Atlantic is admitting that the surge in left-wing violence is on the rise.
The difference between Kimmel’s speech and that of millions of Americans is that the late night show host’s malicious lie directly posed harm to the public — in violation of the FCC charter.
But for millions of Americans, the Biden administration’s pressure on social media companies to censor citizens directly violated their First Amendment rights and effectively rigged the 2020 election.
These two cases are not the same. Don’t let the self-serving, mendacious liars on the left fool you with flimsy rationalizations for further violations of our free speech rights or their incitement of political violence.
