New Bodycam Video: Democrat Assaulted Police Officer During 'Insurrection' at ICE Detention Facility
"Lawmakers are not exempt from the law. Mayors are not immune from arrest. And the idea that enforcing immigration laws makes America an authoritarian state is a dangerous lie..."
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka—also a Democratic candidate for governor—was arrested on Friday after trespassing at a federal ICE detention facility in Newark.
At the secure federal facility, Democratic lawmakers and radical activists rose up in a heated protest against the Trump administration’s enforcement of immigration laws.
Baraka was one of a number of Democratic lawmakers who stormed an ICE detention facility, ignored lawful orders, and then tried to spin the fallout as a civil rights issue.
Bodycam footage that has been released confirms that a Democratic lawmaker actually assaulted a police officer.
Rep. LaMonica McIver (who is wearing red) elbowed a DHS agent during the protest.
Mclver, in true Democratic form, claims that she is the victim: “The way we were treated at Delaney Hall is almost unbelievable. ICE shoved me…” she said.
“They disrespected us and tried to stop us from conducting the oversight we’re elected to do,” she went on. “But we’ll never back down in our fight for what is right.”
In an update, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said that the Democratic lawmaker may be arrested.
Lawmakers do not have a right to interfere with law enforcement operations.
In February, McIver claimed that the the Democratic Party was “at war” with Elon Musk and DOGE cuts, and threatened to “shut down” the Senate — a true “insurrection.”
“As I close out, because I know we’ve been out here for a long time, and, goddammit, shut down the Senate! We are at war! Anytime a person can pay $250 million into a campaign and be given access, full access to the Department of Treasury of the United States of America, we are at war!” McIver yelled.
This is the face of the lawless Democratic Party. Who calls peaceful election protesters “insurrectionists” if they disagree with them, but storm federal facilities themselves and encourage lawbreaking. Remember — the Democratic Party impeached President Donald Trump for calling for “peacefully and patriotically” protesting at the Capitol to pressure lawmakers to object to the elections. Again, it had nothing to with inciting a “riot” to disrupt the election certification.
Now, on to the ICE detention facility “insurrection.” According to interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba, Newark Mayor Baraka was explicitly warned multiple times by Homeland Security agents and refused to comply.
Her public statement after his arrest was blunt: “The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon. He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.”
Now, he’s speaking out against the U.S. Attorney who directed the arrests: None other than Trump ally Alina Habba.
Baraka claimed he was never warned about trespassing. On CNN, he shot back at Alina Habba over the arrest and called it “authoritarian.”
“I didn’t go there to break any laws,” he argued. “I didn’t break any laws. I was there as the mayor of the city exercising my right and duty as an elected official.”
Baraka also gave details about his arrest and the criminal charges he faces.
“I was obviously charged with federal trespassing… which is a class C misdemeanor,” he said. “Going through this is just really humiliating and painful… We are just living in a time period now where if you are opposed to the ideas of people, you could be threatened with arrest or intimidation, and that’s exactly what’s happening.”
“They’re turning [America] into an authoritarian government,” he added.
Let’s be clear: arresting someone for trespassing at a federal detention center is not authoritarian—it’s law enforcement doing its job.
Remember January 6? Protesters who entered the Capitol building—many of whom were invited in or walked through open doors—were labeled insurrectionists, jailed for years, and denied due process.
But Baraka forcibly entered a secure ICE facility alongside Reps. Rob Menendez Jr., Bonnie Watson Coleman, and LaMonica McIver—and the leftwing media is celebrating them?
This isn’t a “double standard.” This is aiding and abetting criminal behavior.
The incident took place at Delaney Hall, an ICE facility currently holding MS-13 gang members, rapists, and violent offenders. It’s not a shelter—it’s a detention center for serious criminals. Baraka and these members of Congress weren’t there to observe conditions. They rushed the gate while it was opening to let an ICE transport bus through, and they physically bypassed security, according to DHS officials.
The argument that this behavior is acceptable—or that the response from DHS was somehow excessive—is absurd. These officials didn’t just break protocol; they broke the law. And when federal agents enforced the law, Democrats cried oppression.
Governor Phil Murphy called Baraka’s arrest “outrageous.” Senator Cory Booker called it “disturbing.” Meanwhile, Baraka was released the same day, charged with a Class C misdemeanor. He called the process “humiliating,” but no one forced him to violate federal law.
If the political roles were reversed, the media narrative would be completely different. If three Republican lawmakers and a GOP mayor tried to storm a federal facility in protest of immigration enforcement, they’d be arrested, prosecuted, and demonized for “threatening democracy.”
Baraka and his allies are playing with fire—daring federal agencies to respond to illegal acts, and then weaponizing the optics when they do.
Lawmakers are not exempt from the law. Mayors are not immune from arrest. And the idea that enforcing immigration laws makes America an authoritarian state is a dangerous lie meant to erode public trust in any form of enforcement.
Baraka broke the law. He got arrested. That’s not a scandal—it’s how the system is supposed to work. No one is above the law.
Who was the guy screaming about no touching? Congress people are still people and need to behave.
